With one cohesive PreK–12 campus, students grow up learning side by side, supported by teachers who truly know them.

Whether you're a parent, a community member, or just someone curious about what makes small-town schools special — we welcome you to visit, ask questions, and experience the difference a community of learners can make.

Our History

Founded in 1918, Darrouzett Independent School District has served as the educational cornerstone of Darrouzett, Texas — a town established just one year earlier when the Santa Fe Railroad reached the area in 1917. Originally created to serve families across Lipscomb County, the district offered education through high school in its early days, reflecting the bold aspirations of this rural community.

For many years, Darrouzett ISD operated solely as a K–6 district. But in a powerful return to its roots, the district restored junior high and high school grades during the 2006–2007 school year, regaining its status as a unified PK–12 campus. This move marked a renewed commitment to providing continuous, homegrown education for the children of Darrouzett and surrounding areas.

In 2009, Darrouzett ISD earned a “Recognized” rating from the Texas Education Agency — an achievement that affirmed the district’s dedication to quality instruction, community values, and academic accountability.

Today, though modest in enrollment with just over 100 students, Darrouzett ISD continues to thrive through personalized learning, innovative programs, and deep community ties. With a student–teacher ratio of approximately 6:1, students benefit from close mentorship, hands-on opportunities in agriculture and health sciences, and a district-wide writing initiative that nurtures confident communicators.

Grounded in a century of resilience and forward-thinking leadership, Darrouzett ISD lives its motto daily: “Community of Learners.” From the halls of our school to the heart of our town, we remain committed to shaping futures while honoring the legacy that brought us here.
